Protect Your Potted Plants From Freezing Temperatures

West Texas weather can shift quickly from warm afternoons to freezing nights. Potted plants are especially vulnerable because their roots have less insulation than plants growing in the ground. A little preparation before the first freeze can protect months—or even years—of plant growth. Know When to Move Plants: - Below 50°F: Bring tropical and especially cold-sensitive plants indoors. - Below 40°F: Protect tender potted plants from prolonged exposure. - 32°F or below: Frost-sensitive plants may suffer serious damage or die. Before Bringing Plants Inside: - Check leaves, stems, and soil for insects. - Remove dead foliage. - Clean containers. - Avoid unnecessary pruning. - Choose a garage, enclosed patio, or indoor room with suitable lighting.

Bringing Landscaping Visions to Life

Every homeowner has a different vision for their property. Some want a neatly maintained lawn, while others imagine defined flowerbeds, decorative borders, attractive outdoor lighting, or a complete refresh of neglected areas. At **Wester Lawn Care Service**, I enjoy working with customers who have ideas for improving their outdoor spaces. Sometimes, a simple conversation can lead to a project that makes a noticeable difference.

Disturbing Things You See Working in Lawn Care

The Things You See Working in Lawn Care That Can Be Disturbing Working in lawn care gives you a perspective on residential properties that most people never see. You spend hours outside, walk into backyards, work along fences and alleys, clean neglected areas, and sometimes uncover things that have been hidden by tall grass or weeds for months. Most days, it's simply part of the job. But occasionally, you encounter things that are genuinely unpleasant—or even disturbing.

Property Cleanout & Organization Services Bringing Order Back to Garages, Sheds, Patios & Outdoor Spaces Over time, garages, sheds, patios, storage areas, and other spaces around the home can become crowded with items we no longer use. Boxes accumulate, tools get misplaced, outdoor equipment piles up, and before long, a useful space becomes difficult to navigate. At Wester Lawn Care, property maintenance can go beyond mowing and landscaping. Property Cleanout & Organization Services are available to help homeowners reclaim those overlooked or cluttered spaces.

How long After Rainfall Should You Mow?

After Heavy Rain: How Long Should You Wait Before Mowing? Rain is great for a lawn, but heavy rainfall can create challenges when it comes to mowing. After receiving around 2 inches of rain, one of the most important decisions a lawn care professional can make is knowing when not to mow. While keeping customers on schedule is important, protecting the lawn should always be part of the decision. How Long Should You Wait? After approximately 2 inches of rainfall, a good general guideline is to wait 24–48 hours before mowing. If the ground is heavily saturated, it may take 48–72 hours or longer before the lawn is ready.

Why Proper Attire Matters in Lawn Care

The Way I Present Myself Represents My Business There's another reason attire matters to me. When I arrive at someone's home, I'm representing Wester Lawn Care Service. Customers are trusting me around their homes, gates, pets, landscaping, and property. Even though lawn care is dirty, physical work, I believe in showing up appropriately dressed, prepared for the job, and ready to work safely.

Overgrown Today. Beautiful Tommorrow.

Tackling an Overgrown Yard: Bringing Your Property Back Under Control An overgrown yard can happen faster than many homeowners expect. A busy schedule, an extended vacation, a vacant property, changing seasons, or simply falling behind on regular maintenance can quickly turn a manageable lawn into a much bigger project. Tall grass, thick weeds, overgrown edges, volunteer trees, and neglected flower beds don't just affect how a property looks. When growth becomes excessive, returning the yard to a clean, manageable condition often requires much more than a normal mowing. Here are some of the steps involved in properly cleaning up an overgrown yard.

Best Time to Prune Trees in Lubbock, Texas

Proper pruning can make a noticeable difference in the health, appearance, structure, and safety of trees and shrubs. Here in Lubbock and across the Southern High Plains, our strong winds, intense sunlight, dry conditions, temperature swings, and occasional winter storms make good pruning practices especially important.

To rake or mulch the leaves

🍂 Rake or Mulch Your Fall Leaves? Which Is Better for Your Lawn? As fall approaches in Lubbock, leaves and acorns can quickly begin accumulating across lawns, flower beds, sidewalks, and curbs. One common question homeowners have is: Should I rake and remove the leaves, or mulch them back into the lawn? The answer depends largely on how many leaves you have and the condition of your lawn. In many cases, both methods have a place in good fall lawn care. Mulching Leaves When the layer of leaves is relatively light, mulching can be an excellent option. A mower chops the leaves into small pieces that settle between the grass blades and gradually decompose. Those small pieces return organic matter to the soil and eliminate the need to bag and haul away every leaf.  Mulching can also save considerable time compared with traditional raking. For the best results, leaves should generally be dry and chopped finely enough that they don't cover or smother the grass. Raking...

Rainy days for a lawn care technician.

Updated September 2026 Rain is something every lawn needs, especially here in West Texas. But for a lawn care professional, a rainy day presents a completely different set of challenges. As an owner-operator, weather doesn't simply determine whether I can mow that day. It affects an entire route—scheduled customers, travel time, equipment use, upcoming appointments, and sometimes several days of work. Rain is good for the lawn. Knowing when to stay off that lawn is part of taking care of it. Why I Don't Always Mow Immediately After It Rains Once the rain stops, that doesn't necessarily mean a property is ready to be serviced. If the ground is saturated, heavy mowing equipment can leave ruts, compact wet soil, tear or track the turf, and create a finished cut that doesn't meet the standard I want to provide. Wet grass can also clump underneath a mower deck and leave heavy clippings across the property. Sometimes the more professional decision is to wait. I...
